Importance of Comprehensive Care

Elevating comprehensive care in ADT management

A patient’s care team plays a crucial role in providing the right support1

Patients rely on many different people during treatment for prostate cancer. The following support should be available to patients during all phases of ADT:
  • A close circle that consists of caregivers, family, and social support
  • A team of physicians managing their treatment, including a primary care physician, cardiologist, urologist, and oncologist
  • Health allies, such as a psychologist, exercise physiologist, dietitian, physical therapist, social worker, or rehab medical specialist. Other medical subspecialties and health professionals may also be a part of this team

Prescribers should keep in mind the following overarching considerations when deciding on ADT treatment1:

  • Ensure the patient has a primary care physician (PCP) who is aware of the patient’s diagnosis and treatment plan—refer patients to a PCP if they do not have one
  • Perform baseline assessments for cardiometabolic, bone, and sexual health as well as depression screening and physical activity level assessment
  • Intervene when necessary for CV risk mitigation, including prescribing statins
  • Promote inclusion of care partners and trusted support providers in treatment discussions
  • Refer patients with uncontrolled risk factors out for additional assessment
  • Consider relying on trained clinical staff to provide patient counseling specific to health domains affected
